We are sorry that as Trustees we did not secure Inc Arts’ future when we were entrusted with its stewardship. And we are sorry that we failed to build further on the work of Inc Arts.
Thank you to all who worked with us build inclusive working environments both on and offstage.
What Inc Arts achieved did not start here – nor does it end here. We reserve our deepest respect and gratitude to all the advocates, activists, pioneers and contributors over the decades who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the UK’s arts and cultural sector grows in inclusive ambition and scale.

From Anand Bhatt, Chair, Inc Arts and Inc Arts Trustees; and Kenneth Tharp, Interim Executive Director for Inc Arts.
Inc Arts champions the creative, contractual and economic rights of the UK's African, Asian, Caribbean and ethnically diverse arts sector workforce. We make inclusive change in the arts and cultural sector. Our vision is to create a thriving cultural community that allows everyone to do their best work.
The focus of our business is on the 'teams behind the scenes'. This means those who work in roles off-stage and support creative production. We work across performing arts (music, dance, theatre), visual arts, collections, heritage, archive, combined and outdoor arts.
We recognise that the experience of marginalisation takes a toll on people's mental health. That is why we have created Inc Arts Minds. This service provides free emotional wellbeing support for ethnically diverse people who work in the creative industries – those who bear the burden of the racism of others. Working in the arts should not be a privilege. Diversity is not an 'option'. Our advocacy is rooted in the lived experience of the workforce. We tell these stories through powerful data, and create solutions and strategies for lasting change.
We consult across the UK. Our network spans performing arts, visual arts, heritage, archives and more. We support and hold organisations to account on how they attract and sustain talent. And we amplify the work of diverse arts organisations.
We focus on evidence–based advocacy. This means that we look at the arts through the prism of ethnicity. Here is our report on arts management and ethnic disparities: Diversity and Managing in the Arts.
Creating an inclusive arts workforce is not only about attracting great talent. We also need to make sure great people can grow to become great leaders. Inc Arts help to identify and build the skills of those in the early stages of leadership, grow the talent pool, and create future senior leaders. We identify mid-career talent and support their growth. We provide networks for ethnically diverse creatives, and we help organisations to nurture and grow Asian diasporas, African diaspora and ethnically diverse talent.
Inc Arts is a non-for-profit charity, and we operate on limited funds and capacity. In recent months we have seen a huge surge in demand for our work. If you can, please help us to ensure that the Inc Arts team can continue championing for the rights of ethnically diverse workers in the arts sector and supporting anti-racist action.
You can donate to our GoFundMe page here. Please share as widely as you can so we can continue to make long-lasting change in the arts sector.
There is no substitute for lived experience. Inc Arts improves business resilience and sustainability of diverse-led arts businesses, by providing support from business leaders with lived experience of inclusion. We also provide the workforce with the opportunity to build networks within the wider diverse arts sector. Find out more about partnering with us as an Ally for Change.
